What to wear for your family photography session
Family photography sessions are a wonderful way to capture memories and create an ever lasting keepsakes of your loved ones. However, choosing what to wear for the session can be a bit overwhelming. Here are some tips to help you dress for the perfect family photography session.
You want your family to coordinate, but you don't want everyone to look like they're wearing a uniform. Choose coordinating colours and styles that complement each other, but allow for individual personalities to shine through.
Choose a neutral colour base. Neural colours tend to look best in natural light photographs. They provide a clean look that doesn’t date. Avoid any heavy patterns and prints, as they can become distracting in photos. If you would like to include a print we recommend just one persons outfit including a print.
Add some layers as this can add interest to your photos, and can also provide versatility for different weather conditions or poses. Consider a cozy cardigans or scarf, or a beanie/hat (pending the weather) to add some interest and texture to your outfits. These items should be easy to remove.
Think about the location of your photo shoot when choosing your outfits. If you'll be having your session in an outdoor setting, consider light earthy tones that blend in with the surroundings.
The season of your photo shoot will also play a role in your outfit choices. For Spring and Summer sessions, light and airy fabrics in neutral or light pastels are a great choice. For Autumn and Winter, try opt for some more cozy layers in natural solid colours.
