Tips for what to wear to your Newborn Photography Session
As a Brisbane-based newborn photographer, I often get asked in my DM’s on instagram by followers what I tell my clients to wear to their session as the colour palates in my photographs work so well. For each of my clients, I have created a style guide for parents to use as a guide . Most importantly I want my clients to feel comfortable, especially my Mother’s as they have just had a baby. I find simple is always the most elegant. My newborns are usually wrapped in just a soft organic blankets and photographed with natural light, just as they are.
Choosing the right clothing for themselves, the parents and siblings for a newborn photography session is important as it can greatly impact the overall look and feel of the photos. Here are some tips for what to wear to your newborn photography session:
Parents + Sibling’s + Family Member’s
Opt for neutral colours like whites, creams, greys, or soft pastels. These tones are timeless and help create a calm and cohesive look.
Instead of wearing identical outfits, coordinate colours and styles with your partner and other family members. This adds visual interest without being too busy.
Choose outfits that are comfortable and make you feel good. Keep in mind that you may be holding, sitting, or kneeling during the session.
Clothing with large logos or busy patterns can be distracting. Opt for simple, classic patterns or solids.
Ensure that siblings are comfortable in their clothing, and choose outfits that are age-appropriate. Bloomers for little girls under short dresses are suggested.
Choose outfits that won't look dated in a few years. Timeless, classic clothing choices ensure your photos remain relevant and beautiful over time.
Ultimately, the goal is to choose clothing that makes you feel comfortable, reflects your personal style, and complements the overall aesthetic you want for your newborn photography session.
