Preparing for a Newborn Photography Session.
As a Brisbane based Newborn Photographer, I have the opportunity of capturing lots of families and their new little family members. Each month we only book only a minimal amount of Newborn Sessions to ensure the quality of my work. Preparing my studio for comfort for the families coming into our naturally lit studio, is something I take pride in. It is all apart of creating an experience for those involved, as these are memories that they will treasure, a huge milestone in their life.
My clients tend to book in their first trimester, to ensure they get a spot in their birth month. We take down the babies due date for my client booking. Newborn sessions are best done within the first 5-14 days after birth when the baby is sleepiest and can be easily posed. Book your session early, preferably during your pregnancy, to ensure availability.
Create a Comfortable Environment, We keep the room warm to ensure the newborn is comfortable, as they will often be undressed and wrapped in blankets during the photography session. We use a soft and mellow playlist filled with songs that are calm. This playlist also helps keep the parents calm too. I usally do a plate of Byron Bay Cookies, some water because I know how hungry a feeding Mum can become.
We also ensure that all props are kept to a minimum and equipment are safe, stable, and clean. The studio is deep cleaned often and we use no fragrances in the studio that may upset the newborn. By following these tips, you can help ensure a successful and enjoyable Newborn Photography Session that results in beautiful, timeless photos for your clints.
