Positano Italy Photography
Ciao Positano!
We are finally here one of my very favourite stops from our last trip to Italy. Jesse and I had previously travelled the Amalfi Coast back on our very first trip to Italy so we were both so excited to be back.
First we picked up our rental car from Rome (absolute mission by the way) but we got there in the end. Now driving in Italy (especially driving to Positano is not for the faint hearted. thankfully Jesse is a very confident and semi aggressive driver because you really do need to be in order to survive on the Italian roads.
We loved our little road trip to Positano, the bending, tight roads and a few trips to the Auto Grill ( petrol station - Italy honestly has the very best petrol stations - they are a highlight in themselves)
The drive into Positano was everything and more than you could even imagine. It is magic, huge lemons as big as your head cascade over the walls, colourful homes layer on top of the cliff sides beaming down onto the ocean. Carts selling granita around every corner. I had tears in my eyes thinking - I was surely the luckiest woman in the world to be here with my family at that point.
When we arrived we checked into Palazzo Margherita, a beautiful self serviced apartment sitting at the top of the Positano cliff. It was stunning and definitely my splurge accommodation of the trip. The rooms were massive and it had a kitchen which was wonderful as we could start making some meals ourselves. The star of this hotel though was the view. walking out onto the deck was like a dream. You could see down and around the entire Positano coast. Breathtaking!
We settled in, unpacked our bags and headed out to explore. First thing on our list was a lemon granita and it did not disappoint.
There are so many sweet little stores in Positano. It has beautiful clothing, bags, ceramics - along with many high end retail stores. There is something for everyone.
We stocked up on some fruit, eggs, bacon and eggs to enjoy for breakfast the next day. Before climbing up the hundreds of stairs to get us back up to the hotel to freshen up before our dinner reservation.
We dined quite a few times at the Positano famous Chez Black Restaurant and we couldn’t fault it. It was beautiful, the food was wonderful and the service was really friendly. Peaches favourite was the Gnocchi Sorrentina. The Restaurant is decked out on the inside as if you are dining in a wooden pirates boat. The gorgeous decor and famous branded chairs give is such a beautiful vibe. It is located right down by the beach and is perfect for people watching.
We then wandered through the streets checking out the little stores and views from the walking paths on our way back up to the hotel. A perfect first day.
The next morning we got up at sunrise to take some family photos. Positano is a busy little town. It fills up with tourists during the day on bus trips and from the ferries. So getting up early is a really nice way to enjoy the town before it gets busy.
After we took our photos we walked all the way back to the hotel and cooked some breakfast which we enjoyed on the deck.
Morning tea later that morning was a cream bun from Collina bakery - a must visit when in Positano. We enjoyed many treats here. We also got one of the trendy lemon sorbets served in a scooped out lemon. We soaked in the town. Checking out the local art galleries and churches. That evening Naples won the football match and all night you could hear fireworks, cars beeping. The excitement was high and the whole town was overjoyed all week long.
Our third day in Positano we had organised a private boat tour of the Amalfi Coast and Capri. We went through Positano Rental Boats and the boys were so amazing. We highly recommend this trip and it was a highlight of our holiday. The team had organised bubbles, appetisers and booked us a table at a beautiful seaside Restaurant called La Canzone del Mare on Capri. We got to swim ( I did get stung by a jelly fish as soon as I touched the water haha) and the captain took us to all these beautiful grottos along the coast.
After lunch we headed into Capri town to enjoy browsing the shops and scouting for the best gelato store. We ended up at Da Gustare. It was delicious.
The taxi cars on Capri Island are such a highlight so be sure to organise a ride. they have no roof and come in so many funky colours.
We headed back to the boat and enjoyed the sunshine as we made our way back to Positano with a little stop at Fiordo di Furore for some photos. We headed into Positano’s port as the sun was setting and we were so tired that we headed to the local deli and grabbed some foccasias for dinner ( these are such a wonderful and cheap way to eat in Italy) They are freshly made and most local grocers have a sandwhich bar.
Our final full day in Positano I had booked the famous Arienzo Beach club for us. Positano is well known for its beautiful pebbled beaches. A lot of the beach is owned privately and you can pay for a beach chair and the other part of the beach is often packed with all the day travellers from the ferries. Booking a beach club is a great way to secure a spot on the beach and ensure you have a relaxing beach day.
I was a little worried about bringing the girls to the beach club as it defiantly had a strong adult vibe to it. All these fears disappeared straight away though as soon as the boat docked. The kids loved having their own beach chair ( each chair joins to a shared table and and has a little head shade. Perfect for reading or when the kids get tired they can pull out their switches.
Another great thing about the beach clubs is they often will include lunch and a welcome drink. All food and beverage can be ordered, delivered and served to your beach chair. We decided on a middle section chair. Which was perfect for us ( note: the chairs closest to the beach have a much higher price tag$$$)
The vibe at Arienzo was fantastic they have a DJ all day and even a saxophone player who comes around and plays for you. The kids loved this. We stacked little beach pebbles, swam in the ocean, climbed the stairs to look over the view. We watched the cliff jumpers, drank plenty of aperols and truly soaked in the La Dolce Vita lifestyle.
The lunch at Arienzo was lovely although not the most kid friendly. Our girls love seafood so we were okay but for any fussy eaters it may not be the best option. The menu is set so you only have a few choices to choose from.
After a busy few days travelling and many stair cases Arienzo was the perfect place to rest for the day. Once we were ready to go home we hopped on the complimentary shuttle boat and headed for one last dinner at Chez Black. The next day we had a long drive to Florence.
